We have since discovered a problem with the power steering. at 20c the sensor should be around 12-14kohms but 30 kohms is not far off really, compared to 215c !! check the wiring pins. 215c indicates either open circuit or short circiut i guess .check if you have a reference voltage? probably 5v . On a page i use on facebook for certain ford vans they have a test for when the cluster drops out. Smack the top of the dash above the instrument panel while you're driving. If you get your display back after smacking it, check the connectors on the back of it. If you still have no joy, it might need removing, and repairing, as it could be a Auto gearbox.
